Abstract

The present study aims to present an analysis of the development of three infants, based on their weight and length information. The research had as main foundations the ideas of the mathematical modeling and the Critical Mathematical Education. The qualitative study used the data concerning the weight and height of the first twelve months of life present in the "vaccination cards" of the three children of the first author and the data regarding weight and height indicated by the Ministry of Health. From these data, a statistical analysis was performed using Student's t-test for independent samples performed with the SPSS software (Statistical Package for Social Science) comparing the development of the babies with the data provided by the Ministry of Health. The results showed that the development of the babies occurred within of normality and that the experience of allying teaching, learning and research was very rich for the authors.
