THEMED ISSUE - YOUTH AND ADULT EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOL

Invited Editors: Dr. Graça dos Santos Costa (Bahia State University) and Dr. David Mallows (University College London)

The purpose of the dossier is to bring together the work of scholars that address policies and actions in Secondary Education and Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in Brazil and in other countries and regions of the world. Work focused on the significance and repercussions of recent educational reforms will also be accepted, in particular the reform of secondary education in EJA in Brazil, as well as critical analysis of policies that contribute to regressive processes in the context of the right to education. The proposal invites reflection, mainly on the processes of juvenilization in EJA related to studies and research on secondary education. The issue of the migration of young working-class people from regular secondary education to EJA is a phenomenon that has been insufficiently studied and is infrequently debated. We aim to understand this significant change that influences the socialization of these young people in school, in terms of the relationships that make up their daily life and which involve reciprocity and mutual interests, conflicts or even subordination. The dossier will also seek to address issues of teacher education and curriculum development, in response to the juvenilization of EJA and the affirmation of the right to basic education in the EJA.

Submission deadline: March 3rd 2024.
