ANALYSIS OF A TECHNOLOGICAL TOOL FOR DRUG CALCULATION: AN EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

The mathematical steps necessary to modify the concentration of therapeutic solutions imply a long time devoted to the activity and a greater possibility of error by the nursing professionals who perform it. Thus, this research aims to describe the analysis phase of a technological tool to assist in calculating the transformation of therapeutic solutions in professional and academic environments. This is a case study research, with a descriptive-quantitative approach, carried out in a public university. A technology was developed that works online and offline and performs solution transformation calculations in a simple way. Then, it was tested by solving public exams questions from health institutions, and no calculation error or technical failure was found. When compared to other technology available on the market, it has advantages such as being multiplatform, enabling instant updates and being closer to the reality experienced in health institutions. It was possible to conclude that the technological tool analyzed can contribute significantly to greater quality, efficiency and safety in the care provided by reducing occasional errors and the time spent in the calculation stages.
