Abstract

Through a look at his biography (life and work), we will try to narrate some aspects considered important for the understanding of the studies developed by the psychiatrist from Rio de Janeiro Iracy Doyle, in addition to the intellectuals who contributed and had influence on his research, to approach the place where he produced his studies and the conditions that enabled the emergence of such investments. It is worth mentioning that Iracy Doyle was the first female doctor to write, in Brazil, a thesis on female homosexuality, significantly distancing herself from the other conclusions of her peers (male doctors) regarding the causes that would lead to the sexual inversion of women.
