Abstract

Adolescence is a time of transformation and change. Young people are often misunderstood, and sometimes those in authority use orthodox methods to enforce respect through force, threat, and/or punishment. Adolescents are no longer children and not yet adults, they do not recognize themselves in their bodies that are changing, nor do they understand the changes they are undergoing. There should be a partnership, families should guide what's going on. Some families have taken advantage of this to get closer to their young people through a constant and continuous exchange. Some families believe that young people are submissive to their parents until they are self-sufficient. This paradigm shift is not quick or easy. Positive Discipline strives for respectful parenting through nonviolent communication that contributes to the development of good emotional skills. The main objective of the research is to identify what has already been published on this subject in Brazil and Portugal through a bibliographical review in the Portal de Periódicos Capes (Catalog of Theses and Dissertations) in Brazil and in the Open Access Repository of Portugal (RCAAP) from Portugal.
