Abstract

Faced with the perception of the relevance of affirmative actions in Brazil, through its effects, which are thus laid bare as historical and social reparation responses, the purpose of research aims to analyze the view of public high school students in the city of Feira de Santana on affirmative action policies, especially on the quota system instituted by law 12.711/2012. In addition, it also intends to describe the vision of these students about the imminent obligation to revise the said legal provision, as well as how to identify discussions about the quota system held in the last year of high school. The theoretical foundation based on Santos (1999) and Carneiro (2005) presents the term epistemicide; Haas; Linhares (2012) and Passos (2012) deal with the disparity educational; Almeida (2021), Godoi; Santos (2021), Domingues (2007), Santos (2007), Arbache (2006) analyze the racial quota system; Streck; Bolzan (2000), Moreira (2019) and Mascaro (2013) the maintenance of the democratic system. This research has an applied nature, it is exploratory and qualitative. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire semi-structured with thirty-four questions seeking to know the socioeconomic profile culture and knowledge about the affirmative action policy, especially about the system of quotas. Applied to 50 students in the last year of public high school in Feira de Santana, from three state colleges. Results: With regard to the revision of Law nº 12.771/2012, the majority opined that said legal provision needs to be renewed and modified, to be more effective. 80% believe that the quota system is not sufficient for proper redress historical-social. 96% understand that black students face more difficulties to access higher education. Conclusion: Although most of them have knowledge of the quotas, a significant number have never heard about these affirmative actions, much less on Law No. 12.771/2012 and its revision.
