Abstract

This article is based on the master's thesis defended in the Postgraduate Program in Education and Contemporaneity of the State University of Bahia - UNEB, whose research was about the workers' movement the access to education, mainly in the first Republic. Furthermore, it tries to contribute to the studies referring to anarchist education without the pretension of exhausting the reflections and the debate. The methodological procedure adopted was desk research in primary sources and a bibliographical survey on the theme. The result of the study shows that the different ideological currents of that time, which disputed the hegemony in the political organizations of the workers, were engaged in such a way in several initiatives in the fight for formal education for the categories represented by them, that libertarian education proposed its own model, aiming at the transformation of the capitalist society.
