THE COSMOPOETICS OF INDIGENOUS BOOKS AND WRITINGS

Abstract

Art, paper and drawing, books and writing, keep their stigmatizing place in our colonial history. However, can one think of the writings and books of artists, masters, and indigenous thinkers as allies in the struggle for territory, in the struggle for life? This article intends to discuss this reflection based on the writings and songs of native people’s masters, as well as on the writings of contemporary indigenous artists. It aims to converge ways of thinking about these writings with native and Afro-diasporic thinkers in order to foresee different worlds and alphabets, which point to other ethics and policies for books and writing. The article goes through the works, speeches, and poetic propositions of Davi Kopenawa, Joseca Yanomami, Denilson Baniwa, Jaider Esbell, Daiara Tukano, Gustavo Caboco, Lucilene Wapichana, Bernaldina José Pedro, Zabelê Pataxó, Ane Kethleen Pataxó, and Uýra Sodoma to think about the cosmopoetics of indigenous books and writing.
